Back to Basics
I went to a figure drawing class last night organized by Dr. Sketchy. This drawing class (more of a gathering than an actual class) is held at local establishments in the Cleveland area about once a month or so. It’s very casual, and all levels of artists are welcome. I should also mention that the classes are usually at a bar. Have a beer while you draw? Brilliant! Anyway, having never taken a figure drawing class in college, live model drawing has proven quite challenging. My approach was to do many 2 minute gestural drawings, and see how many lines it would take me to get the idea across. The line qualities always have a lot of energy in this type of drawing, which I’ve always been drawn to. (Pardon the pun.) I’m sharing a few of my favorites. Move over, Picasso.
